Minister of Energy, Supply and Climate Lars Chr. Lilleholt decided on 30 November 2018 to reserve large parts of the Danish waters for governmental expansion of offshore wind. Fields framed in red are reserved earlier and the blue areas are new reservations – Press release.
Denmark currently has 15 offshore wind farms,
with a capacity of 1,699 MW (25 PJ) and other 4,924 MW (73 PJ) decided by 2030.
Including existing onshore wind turbines, 123 PJ will be reached in 2030. The mapping
above shows good locations for 12,400 MW (185 PJ) offshore wind – more than
enough to meet our 55% renewable target for 2030 and halfway to meet the
ambitious 2050 target (507 PJ wind) – Annex population.
In order to reach the 2050 goal, the
sea wind must be exploited more intensively, and land areas included. The
government therefore removes the ceiling over the height of onshore wind
turbines - Ministry of Business Administration order September 10, 2019. This means that the number
of onshore wind turbines will be reduced from the current approx. 4,300 to max
1,850 by 2030. With 12 MW turbines – like the new GE Haliade-X
- this equates to 330 PJ. The energy loss associated with electrofuels will
be compensated by new and dedicated engines and process heat recovery.
